About Jakarta

Jakarta, officially the Special Region of Jakarta, previously called the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, is the de facto capital and largest city of Indonesia and an autonomous region with administrative status equivalent to a province. Located on the northwest coast of Java, the world’s most populous island, the city borders the provinces of West Java and Banten and faces the Java Sea to the north. Although Jakarta covers about 662 square kilometres, the wider Jakarta metropolitan area—commonly known as Greater Jakarta—is one of the largest urban agglomerations in the world. The city serves as Indonesia’s political, economic, and cultural centre and hosts numerous national institutions, corporate headquarters, and the secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Getting There

• Jakarta is served by Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the primary gateway for international travelers. Most major airlines operate flights to this hub, making it accessible from across Asia and beyond. Upon arrival, you have several transport options to reach the city center and your accommodation. The airport railway connects directly to Jakarta's central stations, offering an affordable and efficient route. Alternatively, ride-sharing services and taxis are readily available outside the terminal. For getting around Jakarta during the conference, the city has an expanding public transport network including buses and the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) system, which provides convenient connections across the city. Ride-sharing apps are also widely used and reliable for shorter journeys.
